A Lancashire Pedigree Case http://books.google.ca/books?id=ENcrAAAAIAAJ&lpg=PA141&ots=9vNEXxWl1e&dq=hesketh%20%2B%20ryley&pg=PP1#v=onepage&q&f=false

This book covers a legal case, in which lawyers argue the relationships, between the three families...Harrison, Hesketh, and Riley. They apparently win an arguement that Thomas Hesketh must have married Isabel Harrison, and had a daughter, Margaret, with her. In this way, he becomes brother-in-law to Ellen (Harrison) Barton and the Harrisons become cousins to the Rileys.

A few things, that don't seem to mesh with the lawyers' arguements...

1. A marriage is recorded between one Thomas Hesketh and an Isabel Barton. If Isabel Barton is the sister of Henry Barton, then Ellen's husband's sister's husband, may also be called brother-in-law. This would negate their arguement that the ONLY way for Hesketh to be brother-in-law, is if he married Isabel Harrison.

2. Margaret Hesketh appears to have been born, before Isabel Harrison's first husband dies. So, even if Isabel Harrison does remarry Thomas Hesketh, at some point, it doesn't seem possible for Margaret to be the daughter of Isabel Harrison.

3. Missing records: There doesn't seem to be any record of Thomas Hesketh marrying an Isabel Harrison or Freckleton. There does not appear to be any record of an Isabel Hesketh, that could be Thomas' wife, dying before 1702.
